Soulside Story
Nov. 29th, 2007 14:38There is a blog Soulside Story, written by a person (ed.: I'm told they are most probably two persons) living in a village on the Polish-Lithuanian borderland. If you open those pages, you'll see, feel and almost smell the land itself. There are hills, meadows and rivers, old mansions and cottages, people and their daily life. Not only those who live now, but also those who loved, fought and toiled years ago. Those people belong to the many ethnical groups of the region. The writer treats all the cultures with such a great respect that one can not stay unmoved. He also talks about those difficult questions of how we deal with our historical memory and sentiments. There are moments which make the relics of the reader's cultural and historical prejudices crumble. You might know what I'm talking about if you come from a similar region with a complicated history. The blog is in Polish and some really important things are retold in English. In fact, you may find you can understand quite a lot if you know a language which is related to Polish (that is my case). Even if you can't read it, you are welcome to watch the pictures of the land which looks like a paradise – and might become like it if more of us choose the way of respectful awareness.
